Lazio President's Conduct Under Scrutiny: Rocca Criticizes Lotito's Relationship with Fans
Francesco Rocca, President of the Lazio Region, has once again voiced his concerns regarding SS Lazio President Claudio Lotito's interactions with supporters. Speaking to Radio Romanista, Rocca highlighted issues with Lotito's demeanor and effectiveness as a club leader.
Rocca stated, "The last time I met him was in May, when I tried, for the umpteenth time, to offer him some advice. But the posture of a president of a major football club cannot be one of insults, of confronting fans face-to-face, or responding on the phone with vulgar language. I don't recall Moratti, Sensi, or others adopting such a stance. Furthermore, one must take responsibility when things go wrong; it's not always others' fault."
"When one chooses to be the president of an important club, they enter the public eye. I also think of Frosinone's president, Stirpe. A gentleman who sold the majority of the club to an American fund, stating, 'I didn't want to see Frosinone risk Serie B again. I know my limits, so for the club's good, I made this choice.' When Frosinone was relegated and he faced criticism, he accepted responsibility, even if the mistake might have been the coach's or someone else's."
Rocca continued, "Ultimately, a president is a bit like a father who must understand legitimate frustrations, know how to communicate, and address discontent. This is the duty of a good president. There have been tense moments between Roma fans and the Friedkin ownership, but I don't recall them engaging directly with fans." He concluded with a pointed remark: "Some say Lotito is a Roma supporter; who knows..."
