Infantino Calls for FIFA Governance Reform
FIFA President Gianni Infantino has proposed a consultation with member federations to reform the organization's governance. In a letter to the 211 affiliated federations, Infantino stated, "I will propose that the Council [of FIFA] organize a direct, structured, and time-bound consultation with the confederations, affiliated associations, and stakeholders regarding how to further strengthen FIFA's decision-making processes."
This initiative follows a period of crisis for Infantino's presidency after the failed project to create a commercial company open to private investors.
The Swiss-Italian executive suggests reviewing initial proposals during the Council meeting scheduled for October 15th. He also noted that written contributions received later, within a reasonable deadline, will be considered.
Infantino added that this consultation would invite specific proposals on earlier involvement of institutional bodies, the respective roles of the President, the Bureau, the Council, and the Congress, as well as concrete methods to enhance transparency, participation, and accountability in major strategic initiatives.
