The Supercoppa Italiana for the 2026-27 season will not be held in Saudi Arabia, according to an announcement from Lega Serie A President Luigi De Siervo. The United States and Italy are being considered as potential alternative venues.
While Saudi Arabia hosted the most recent edition of the tournament and held an option to host the following season as well, this clause will not be exercised. Consequently, the Supercoppa Italiana will take place in a different location.
Uncertainty Surrounds Supercoppa Italiana’s Location
Luigi De Siervo stated in an interview with GR Parlamento Radio RAI, “It’s a complicated matter, we have some contracts, and we can say it will not be in Saudi Arabia.” He further elaborated on the possibilities, mentioning, “There is a theory we could play in the United States, and another international idea, but also that of playing for a year in Italy.”
The Supercoppa Italiana is expected to continue with its Final Four format. This involves semi-final matches between the Scudetto winners and the Coppa Italia runners-up, and vice-versa. The winners of these two matches will then compete for the trophy in the final.
The December 2025 edition saw Napoli emerge victorious, defeating Bologna in the Final. Typically, the tournament is played on neutral ground, necessitating suitable stadiums.
A recurring issue with the current format arises when a single team wins both the Scudetto and reaches the Coppa Italia final, as was the case with Inter. This requires an additional team to be sourced from elsewhere to complete the four-team lineup.
