During the 114th anniversary celebrations of Santos Futebol Clube, star player Neymar found himself in a confrontation with fans at Vila Belmiro on Tuesday (14). Following a 1-1 draw against the reserves of Recoleta from Paraguay in the Copa Sudamericana, as the number 10 prepared for an interview, he told a supporter to be quiet.
“We made mistakes. We all made mistakes. It happens. I think we created a lot, we played well, we didn’t play badly. The fans get nervous, ask us to play more, but our team is playing, creating chances. I understand the fans’ frustration, but they have to know football is like that, and sometimes the ball just doesn’t go in,” Neymar stated.
As the disagreement escalated, Neymar questioned the fan’s happiness and whether he considered Neymar to be spoiled. “You should have trained more. You’re a little chubby (laughs),” the forward remarked before continuing. “You’re right… happy now? Am I spoiled? I’m giving my life here. I’ll give you a minute of fame,” Neymar said, approaching the fan.
Ultimately, as Neymar departed the field towards the tunnel leading to the locker room, he was met with boos and insults from the Santos faithful. Earlier in the match, Gabriel Barbosa also experienced the displeasure of the club’s fans.
