Preview Mourinho al Real Madrid? Spunta una clausola e una deadline, come funziona

There’s a chance of the Special One returning to the Spanish capital: here’s what’s emerging.

The current season has been inconsistent, with some even calling it a failure for the prestigious club in question: Real Madrid. Under the guidance of Alvaro Arbeloa, Real Madrid risks finishing the year with ‘zero titles‘.

It’s no coincidence that this historic quote for international football is being used; the current campaign for the Blancos raises significant and pronounced questions about the future of the Spanish manager, who is unlikely to remain on the Madrid club’s bench from next summer onwards. Florentino Perez is already considering potential new coaches to take the reins of the Merengues and bring them back to winning ways and competing for all titles in Spain and Europe. Among these ideas, the possible return of José Mourinho remains a consistent consideration.

A CLAUSE EXISTS

News that has circulated in recent days from our colleagues at AS indicates that the Special One‘s name is on Real Madrid‘s table for next season, and Mourinho himself is flattered by the idea of returning as the manager of the Blancos.

Furthermore, according to information obtained by AS, there is a clause within Mourinho‘s contract with Benfica that would allow the Portuguese coach to leave the Portuguese club at no additional cost, essentially for free. This clause has a deadline of ten days after Benfica‘s last match of the season (meaning the timeframe extends until the final days of May). Mourinho could therefore leave Portugal before June if Real Madrid decides to sign him and offer him the managerial position.

THE SITUATION AT BENFICA

In any case, Mourinho, who remains undefeated in the league with his Benfica, only wants to focus on finishing his season as best as possible before potentially considering the possibility of returning to Madrid and re-entering one of Europe’s top five leagues through the front door.

The Special One is already beginning to prepare and plan for the next season (he still has one year left on his contract with Benfica), but it is clear that if Real Madrid were to make an approach, it would be too significant an option to ignore.

For his part, the intention of president Rui Costa is to wait for the outcome of the next season before potentially renewing the expiring agreement with Mourinho (who has never truly confirmed his permanence in his latest press statements). Decisions are expected soon, but the allure of Madrid is very much alive in Mourinho‘s thoughts.
