Preview Italian Premier League Champions: Players & Coaches Beyond Calafiori

For the second consecutive season, an Italian footballer has triumphed in the Premier League. This article details the complete roster of Italian players and managers who have achieved English championship glory.

Arsenal’s recent Premier League victory, their first in 22 years, was significantly aided by Italian international Calafiori. This marks the second year in a row an Italian player has secured the English title, with Calafiori following in the footsteps of Federico Chiesa, who lifted the trophy with Liverpool during the 2024-25 season.

Earlier, in the 2011-12 season, Mario Balotelli was part of the Manchester City squad that won the Premier League. He contributed 13 goals in 23 league appearances and provided the assist for Sergio Aguero’s decisive late goal against QPR.

Premier League Winners: Italians Without a Medal

Several other Italian players have been part of Premier League-winning squads but did not meet the minimum league appearance criteria to receive an official winners’ medal.

Federico Macheda’s Manchester United were crowned English champions in the 2008-09 season, with the young Italian striker being only 16 at the time.

In the 2009-10 season, an 18-year-old Fabio Borini made four appearances for Carlo Ancelotti’s Chelsea. A few seasons prior, during the 2004-05 and 2005-06 campaigns, Carlo Cudicini won the title as Chelsea’s second-choice goalkeeper under José Mourinho, appearing in just seven matches over two seasons.

Massimo Taibi, another reserve goalkeeper, made four appearances in the 1999-00 season. By the time Manchester United secured the title that year, Taibi had already returned to Reggina.

A total of four Italian coaches have achieved Premier League success: Antonio Conte in the 2016-17 season and Carlo Ancelotti in 2009-10, both with Chelsea. Claudio Ranieri led Leicester City to the title in 2015-16, and Roberto Mancini managed Manchester City to championship glory in 2011-12.
