Brentford 3-0 Chelsea: Igor Thiago Scores as Blues Endure Poor Night

Brentford secured a Premier League win after an early-season drought, with goals from Jaidon Anthony, Igor Thiago, and Fabio Carvalho. The match marked a difficult evening for Chelsea.

Anthony found the net in the 61st minute, followed by Thiago's first league goal of the season seven minutes before full-time, defeating a Chelsea team that showed little attacking threat.

Substitute Carvalho added a third goal in added time, leaving Xabi Alonso appearing dejected on the Chelsea bench.

Alonso's team aimed to recover from a loss to Arsenal and a disappointing draw at home against Hull, but they rarely tested Caoimhin Kelleher in the Brentford goal.

Chelsea had few opportunities. Pedro Neto's shot in the ninth minute was saved by Kelleher, and Morgan Rogers saw his shot blocked by defender Jannik Schuster five minutes before halftime. These were Chelsea's main threats in the first half.

Brentford also struggled in the first 45 minutes. They didn't register a shot on target until the 37th minute, when Yehor Yarmoliuk's effort was a routine save for Emiliano Martinez.

The second half started similarly, but Brentford seemed to have more attacking drive. Anthony headed a ball onto the crossbar, though it was ruled offside.

He broke the deadlock shortly after the hour mark. Mikkel Damsgaard's corner from the left was headed back across goal by Jannick Schuster, and Anthony scored from close range for his first Brentford goal.

Chelsea had a period of possession after conceding but made little of it, with Joao Pedro's absence due to injury being noticeable. Danny Welbeck was effectively contained by the Brentford defence, and Rogers had little impact. Cole Palmer was Chelsea's standout player, but he too struggled to influence the game.

Argentina international Valentin Barco, who faced jeers throughout the match for his role in the World Cup semi-final against England, had a penalty claim dismissed, which was the correct decision. Brentford then doubled their lead on a counter-attack.

Kevin Schade was played through, and although his shot was saved by Martinez, the rebound fell to Thiago, who scored.

The Brazilian celebrated the goal enthusiastically, removing his shirt and receiving a yellow card. This was a notable moment as he had not been included in Carlo Ancelotti's recent squad.

Maxence Lacroix missed an opportunity to reduce the deficit, heading over the bar in injury time. Carvalho, however, showed a clinical finish, connecting with Schade's deflected cross at the far post to score high into the net.

This victory moved Brentford into third place in the league standings before the remainder of the weekend's matches.
