Preview Tyler Herro to undergo foot surgery, miss start of Heat season

Miami Heat All-Star guard Tyler Herro is set to undergo surgery on his left foot this Friday, a procedure that will cause him to miss the start of the 2025-26 NBA season, the team announced.

Herro had previously dealt with an impingement in his left foot during the last season. The decision for surgery came after the Heat guard sustained an ankle injury during an offseason workout, according to sources.

The Miami squad will therefore begin the upcoming campaign without their leading scorer. Herro is fresh off his career-best season in 2024-25, where he posted averages of 23.9 points, 5.5 assists, and 5.2 rebounds per game.

Aiming to bounce back from a disappointing playoff exit, where the Heat were swept in three of their four first-round games against the Cleveland Cavaliers, Miami made moves to enhance their offensive capabilities and shooting. They acquired Norman Powell and Simone Fontecchio via trade and drafted guard Kasparas Jakucionis, strengthening a roster that includes Bam Adebayo, Andrew Wiggins, and Kel`el Ware alongside Herro.

Herro`s performance last season earned him his inaugural All-Star selection, marking four consecutive seasons where he has averaged at least 20 points and five rebounds.
