Goaltender Spencer Knight is set to remain with the Chicago Blackhawks for the foreseeable future.
The Blackhawks officially announced on Saturday that the 24-year-old netminder has committed to a three-year contract extension worth $17.49 million. This new agreement carries an average annual value of $5.83 million, solidifying his presence in the Windy City.
Knight was approaching the conclusion of his previous deal, originally signed with the Florida Panthers in 2022, and would have become a restricted free agent at the end of the current season.
General Manager Kyle Davidson expressed the team`s enthusiasm in an official statement, noting, “Since joining us in March, Spencer has rapidly established himself as a vital component of our long-term plans. We eagerly anticipate watching him thrive in Chicago for the coming four seasons.”
Originally the 13th overall selection by the Florida Panthers in the 2019 draft, Knight was acquired by Chicago at the March trade deadline as part of a trade package for defenseman Seth Jones.
During the 2024-25 season, Knight set a personal best with 38 games played, recording a 5-8-2 record after his move to the Blackhawks. Over his career, he has participated in 95 NHL games, achieving five shutouts, a 2.83 goals-against average, and a .904 save percentage.
With the Blackhawks, who have finished last in the Central Division for three consecutive seasons and are entering their first season under head coach Jeff Blashill, Knight is presented with a significant opportunity to assume a more prominent role. Arvid Söderblom, who finished last season with a 10-18-7 record, will be back for his fifth season in Chicago, while Petr Mrazek was traded to Detroit shortly after Knight`s arrival.
