During Juventus’s celebration of Kenan Yildiz’s goal against Pisa, coach Luciano Spalletti was observed playfully slapping USMNT international Weston McKennie.
This incident occurred after Juventus secured a dominant 4-0 home victory against Pisa on Saturday, marking their first Serie A win in over a month.
Following Yildiz’s third goal in the 75th minute, many players rushed to the touchline to embrace coach Spalletti, who was celebrating his 67th birthday. While the Italian tactician reciprocated hugs with his players, he delivered a light slap to McKennie upon the American’s arrival.
This playful gesture is not unprecedented for Spalletti, who previously performed a similar action with Lois Openda in January before the striker entered a Champions League match against Benfica.
Despite the lighthearted slap, it’s clear that Spalletti holds McKennie’s performances in high regard this season. The American midfielder has been instrumental, contributing eight goals and seven assists in 27 appearances under Spalletti, earning him a contract extension until 2030.
