The San Jose Sharks have signed goaltender Jakub Skarek to a one-year contract valued at $775,000, adding depth to their goaltending position. The signing was announced Thursday.

Skarek, an unrestricted free agent, made his NHL debut last season with the New York Islanders. In two games, he posted a 0-1-0 record, a 3.94 goals-against average (GAA), and an .872 save percentage (SV%).

The 25-year-old Czech netminder from Jihlava primarily played in the AHL for the Bridgeport Islanders. In 22 games, he recorded a 5-13-1 record, a 3.52 GAA, an .884 SV%, and one shutout.

Sharks general manager Mike Grier commented in a press release, stating, “Jakub brings a wealth of professional experience in net at only 25 years old. He is a large, athletic goaltender who competes hard.”

The Islanders originally drafted Skarek in the third round, 72nd overall, in the 2018 NHL Entry Draft.
