

The Buffalo Sabres have officially secured their top prospect from the recent NHL Entry Draft, defenseman Radim Mrtka. The team announced on Tuesday that Mrtka, selected ninth overall in June, has signed a three-year entry-level contract, marking a significant step in his professional hockey career.
Mrtka, an 18-year-old formidable 6-foot-6 right-shot blueliner, spent last season with the WHL`s Seattle Thunderbirds. During his 43 games, he demonstrated significant offensive upside, recording an impressive 35 points, comprised of three goals and 32 assists, showcasing his playmaking abilities from the backend.
Prior to his impactful season in North America, Mrtka honed his skills in his home country, competing in Czechia`s Extraliga. He also consistently represented his nation on the international stage, participating in the U18 World Championships for two consecutive years, further highlighting his readiness for the challenges of elite professional hockey.
