Rasmus Andersson Clarifies His Future Amidst Flames Contract Speculation

Calgary Flames defenseman, Rasmus Andersson, has consistently demonstrated a willingness to put the team first. This straightforward and honest Swedish player, who notably ranked fourth in the NHL for blocked shots last season, spent the majority of the summer dealing with critiques regarding his value as an upcoming free agent.

On Tuesday, Andersson seized the opportunity to address these concerns head-on, aiming to correct the narrative following months of widespread rumors and speculation.

Despite significant differences between Andersson and the Flames that have led to stalled contract extension discussions, he firmly stated that he has neither requested a trade nor expressed any desire to depart Calgary. Crucially, he emphasized that he has not placed the club in a difficult negotiating position.

“What truly bothers me is the spread of false information,” Andersson remarked. He has just one year remaining on his current team-friendly contract, which pays him $4.55 million annually. “I saw various reports suggesting I would only sign with a specific team, and other similar claims. This could not be further from the truth. Connie (GM Craig Conroy) and I have had several conversations over the summer, and I would never compromise his position by limiting his options to just one team.”
