PFL`s rising star, Timur Khizriev, is currently facing a critical situation.

Russian media reported on Tuesday that PFL featherweight champion Timur Khizriev was shot five times with rubber bullets in Makhachkala, Dagestan, Russia. While his condition is stable, he sustained multiple injuries to his shoulder, hand, and chest, and is undergoing surgical procedures.

Khizriev was reportedly ambushed by two individuals in the courtyard of a residential building shortly after exiting his vehicle. Authorities have detained one suspect, but two others are said to have escaped. Eyewitnesses stated that the assailants hurled insults at Khizriev`s family as they fled the scene.

Allegedly, video footage of the incident exists.

Khizriev`s team confirmed to MMA Fighting that the event took place and that Khizriev is recovering in the hospital, with his life not being in danger.

On Wednesday, the PFL issued a statement acknowledging the incident and extending their best wishes to their burgeoning star.

The statement from PFL read: “PFL is aware of the situation concerning Timur Khizriev and remains in close contact with his representatives. Our thoughts are with him and his family during this challenging time.”

The 29-year-old Khizriev, who holds an undefeated record of 18-0, previously competed in Bellator before moving to the PFL in 2024. In the PFL, he reached the tournament finals following three consecutive decision victories. Khizriev subsequently secured the featherweight title by defeating Brendan Loughnane via unanimous decision at the PFL Championships.
