Paul Ferguson presents his three horse racing selections for Saturday’s events, with one pick hailing from Doncaster and two from Kelso.
The promising novice, MIGHTY BANDIT (1:55), showcased an impressive performance over the course-and-distance in his last outing, despite a minor error towards the end. He is expected to defy an 8lb weight increase in a competitive handicap chase at Doncaster.
Up at Kelso, STARMOUNT (2:15) is tipped as a strong contender to win the Grade 2 Premier Novices’ Hurdle. After securing a fourth-place finish in the Formby at Aintree, Starmount had previously delivered two notable victories on soft ground at Wetherby, indicating that the longer trip should be well within his capabilities. In the same race, a potential return to form from The Blue Room at longer odds should not be entirely overlooked.
The Morebattle race appears to be a highly competitive affair, but HAMLET’S NIGHT (2:55), who has attracted considerable backing throughout the week, is deemed worthy of each-way support. His prospects are enhanced by drier ground conditions, and his early season form, particularly his second-place finish to Rubaud, reads very well. He prepared for this race with a recent win on the Flat at Kempton last week.
Saturday’s Selections:
- 1:55 Doncaster – Mighty Bandit
- 2:15 Kelso – Starmount
- 2:55 Kelso – Hamlet’s Night
