The Oklahoma City Thunder have proudly unveiled their latest City Edition uniforms, set to highlight their upcoming NBA season. These new threads are a significant tribute to the profound Native and Indigenous cultures that are integral to Oklahoma`s identity and community spirit. Historically, Oklahoma has been home to 67 distinct American Indian tribes, making this homage particularly meaningful.
Fans will get their first glimpse of these unique uniforms during the franchise`s annual Native American Heritage Night, scheduled for November 19, when the Thunder face off against the Sacramento Kings.
Drawing inspiration from the turquoise City Edition design of the 2018-19 season, which similarly honored the state`s Native American communities, the new uniforms feature a darker shade of blue. They retain the iconic interlocking geometric `OKC` lettering prominently displayed in the center of the jersey, connecting the past with the present.
Several intricate design elements enhance the uniforms` storytelling. In a subtle nod to the Oklahoma River, water-like patterns flow diagonally across the fabric, seamlessly uniting the two primary colors. The waistband features an expanding square motif, while a hidden turtle emblem is cleverly integrated into the right leg of the shorts, symbolizing longevity and wisdom.
Furthermore, eleven geometric stars adorn the sides of both the jersey and shorts, a design choice that, according to the Oklahoma City team, is intended to “carry forward stories passed through generations.” A striking sunset-colored sash wraps across the shoulder and down the shorts leg, serving as a powerful symbol of the enduring spirit and resilience of Oklahoma`s diverse tribal communities.
These special Thunder uniforms will be accompanied by a brand-new alternate court design, exclusively for City Night themed games. Starting December 5, all Friday home games will be designated as City Night games, during which the team will proudly wear these special City Edition uniforms and play on the newly themed court, creating an immersive experience for fans.
