Florida Panthers’ Contract Decisions and Trade Prospects
The Florida Panthers are reportedly considering various roster adjustments ahead of the trade deadline. Forward A.J. Greer and defenseman Jeff Petry are among their pending unrestricted free agents who might be moved. There has also been speculation regarding goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky’s future, as his contract has not yet been extended. However, given his current performance, sources indicate that discussions about an extension are unlikely to occur during the season and would likely be postponed until after the year concludes, especially if the Panthers struggle to maintain a strong run.
St. Louis Blues Trade Interest in Key Players
While trade activity around St. Louis Blues goaltender Jordan Binnington is minimal, several other players are reportedly attracting attention from opposing teams. Captain Brayden Schenn’s name frequently surfaces in trade discussions, particularly as he may not be inclined towards a team rebuild. Furthermore, veteran defenseman Justin Faulk is generating significant interest in the trade market. The Blues have also been actively trying to trade Mathieu Joseph, placing him on waivers with the hope of facilitating a move before the trade deadline if he clears.
Ottawa Senators’ Persistent Search for Defensemen and Forwards
The Ottawa Senators’ General Manager continues to prioritize acquiring a right-handed defenseman and a top-six forward. A right-shot defenseman is considered the most pressing need, especially with defenseman Nick Jensen struggling post-offseason hip surgery. However, available options are scarce, and the asking prices are high. The Senators have shown interest in Calgary Flames defenseman MacKenzie Weegar, who carries a substantial contract through 2030-31. They have also inquired about Flames’ Zach Whitecloud. The search for a right-handed defenseman is competitive, with teams like the Detroit Red Wings, Boston Bruins, Buffalo Sabres, San Jose Sharks, Dallas Stars, and Utah Mammoth also reportedly in the market. The Red Wings have also expressed interest in Weegar, for whom the Flames are said to be seeking a first or second-round pick along with a top prospect or a roster player. Other potential defensive targets for the Senators include Brandon Carlo, Dougie Hamilton, Connor Murphy, Justin Faulk, and Colton Parayko.
The Senators do not possess a first-round pick this year. While defensemen Carter Yakemchuk and Logan Hensler are prospects that have drawn interest from other teams, the Senators are not willing to part with either of them. The team might look to trade pending unrestricted free agents such as forwards Claude Giroux, David Perron, Lars Eller, and Nick Cousins, as well as defenseman Nick Jensen. Additionally, AHL goaltender Mads Sogaard could be a trade candidate.
