Edmonton Oilers captain Connor McDavid provided an update on his contract negotiations, stating he had no new information but was eager to start training camp with his teammates.

The ongoing story of Connor McDavid`s contract extension has become a significant discussion point at training camp, yet the Edmonton Oilers superstar indicates that the situation remains largely unchanged.

After opting out of media availability on Wednesday, McDavid addressed questions regarding his high-profile negotiations on Thursday, offering no signs of significant developments.

“There isn`t much new to report,” the captain stated. “Naturally, we consider it, discuss it, and assess our position and feelings. As of now, nothing substantial has changed, and I`m simply enthusiastic to be here at camp and get things started. It`s an exciting period for our team and the entire league, and indeed, we`re thrilled.”

McDavid is slated to become an unrestricted free agent following the 2025-26 season if he chooses not to sign an extension. He has been eligible to finalize a new deal since July 1.

The Richmond Hill, Ontario native has played his entire professional career in Edmonton since being drafted first overall in 2015. In a recent interview on 32 Thoughts: The Podcast, he reaffirmed that his primary objective remains to bring a Stanley Cup championship to the city.

Despite this clear aspiration, the 28-year-old star has yet to secure a new contract.

Recent Performance and Future Focus

Last season, McDavid appeared in only 67 games due to various injuries. Nevertheless, he still managed to achieve 100 points for the fifth consecutive season, recording 26 goals and 74 assists.

During the playoffs, he led the Oilers to their second consecutive Stanley Cup Final appearance, contributing seven goals and 26 assists for a total of 33 points. However, their efforts were ultimately unsuccessful as Edmonton once again lost to the Florida Panthers.

On Wednesday, Oilers general manager Stan Bowman reiterated that McDavid`s top priority remains overcoming this challenge in Edmonton, emphasizing the goal of winning the Stanley Cup.
