Matias Maccelli knows he can still produce points in the NHL.
The Finnish forward is eager to demonstrate this capability with the Toronto Maple Leafs.
Maccelli, 24, met with Toronto media on Monday for the first time since being acquired by the Leafs last month in a trade with the Utah team.
“It comes down to ice time and opportunity kind of with the points,” he stated. “It wasn`t obviously the best year for myself (last season). But I still know I`m a better player than I was … I`ve got it still in me. Now, I`ve just got to show people that again.”
Maccelli`s statistics saw a notable decline last season, where he registered 8 goals and 10 assists for a total of 18 points across 55 games with Utah, averaging 13:44 of ice time.
This contrasts sharply with his previous two seasons in Arizona. His best NHL campaign came in 2023-24, recording 17 goals and 40 assists for 67 points in 82 games with an average ice time of 16:14. In his first full NHL season in 2022-23, also with Arizona, Maccelli put up 11 goals and 38 assists for 49 points over 64 games, playing an average of 15:41 per night.
