Despite being currently without a contract, Mason McTavish is diligently preparing for the upcoming season.

Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet reported on Thursday that the Anaheim Ducks` restricted free agent, McTavish, has started practicing with the OHL`s Ottawa 67s while awaiting a new agreement.

Friedman further noted that the primary sticking point in negotiations is the contract`s duration. The Ducks reportedly favor a long-term commitment for McTavish, whereas a shorter bridge deal is not their preference. Reportedly, the two parties have yet to reach a mutual understanding.

Following Trevor Zegras`s departure during the off-season, McTavish is now a central figure among the Ducks` young talent. Expectations are high for him to elevate his performance in his fifth NHL season.

Last season, he achieved personal bests with 22 goals and 30 assists, and also recorded his highest career average ice time, clocking in at 16:53 per game.

McTavish is among a select group of prominent restricted free agents still without a contract, a list that also includes New Jersey Devils defenseman Luke Hughes.
