Katie Taylor and Amanda Serrano have met in the boxing ring on two prior occasions. Although there is a significant level of respect between the two elite fighters, the underlying tension was clearly evident and nearly surfaced during their recent pre-fight press conference held on Wednesday.
Following questions regarding their previous two contests, which both concluded with Taylor winning by extremely narrow, controversial decisions, the athletes engaged in a heated faceoff. Serrano has consistently maintained that she deserved the victory in those earlier bouts, a claim that Taylor unequivocally disagrees with.
However, the one point they did agree upon was the likelihood that this third meeting will be their last. Serrano is focused on avenging the disputed outcomes of their past fights, while Taylor aims to definitively close the chapter on what is already considered one of the greatest rivalries in the history of women`s boxing.
The fighters are scheduled for one final staredown on Thursday during the official weigh-ins. Their highly anticipated trilogy fight is set to take place inside Madison Square Garden in New York on Friday. The event will be broadcast live on Netflix, with the main card slated to begin at 8 p.m. ET.
