Jon Jones appears to be contemplating a return to active competition, motivated by a significant potential opportunity on the horizon.
Following President Donald Trump`s announcement regarding plans to host a Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) event at The White House to commemorate Independence Day in 2026, several fighters reacted with excitement. Notably, Conor McGregor was among those who expressed interest in competing on the proposed card.
Adding to the speculation, the 37-year-old Jones is now teasing a comeback, despite having announced his retirement in June. The athlete, who has held both heavyweight and light heavyweight titles, commented on social media, writing, “Fighting at The White House?” accompanied by an eye emoji, indicating his potential interest.
Further fueling the rumors, Jones subsequently posted that he “Just re-entered the testing pool, that lasted for about two weeks. Figured we’d keep everyone’s options open.” This suggests he is keeping the door open for potential future fights.
Jones had declared his retirement on June 21 after a period characterized by limited ring time since 2020. Although he added the UFC heavyweight title to his impressive collection during this span, he competed only twice. During this hiatus, Jones often faced criticism for not facing Tom Aspinall, who held the interim title and publicly sought a unification bout. In Jones`s absence, Aspinall was later elevated to undisputed champion status.
President Trump would likely be very interested in having Jones participate in the planned event. The president was present at Jones`s most recent fight, UFC 309 in New York, where Jones successfully defended his title against Stipe Miocic. Following his victory, Jones celebrated by mimicking one of Trump’s well-known dance moves before greeting the president near the octagon.
