Motonautica Thrills at Waterfestival: An August of Excitement from Viverone to Emilia
Italian powerboating shows no signs of slowing down, even during the hottest month of the year. In August, some of the nation's top circuit pilots are and will be competing in Italy and Poland at three of the most significant and prestigious World, European, and Italian Championship events.
The action kicked off last weekend with the twelfth edition of the "Viverone Waterfestival." Organized by ASD Rainbow Team Association and supported by the Piedmont Region and Piemonte Sport, the event delivered an adrenaline-fueled spectacle for the public, featuring all race heats for the three circuit categories: F4, F2, and Formula Junior Elite.
Results from Viverone
The F2 European Championship, a single-stage event, was dominated by Sweden's Hilmer Wiberg. Among the Italian competitors, Tullio Maria Abbate secured tenth place, with Luca Fornasarig finishing thirteenth. The Italian RPM team was also present, with Alessandro Canzi supporting French pilot Peter Morin aboard hull number 111.
Adam Wrenkler claimed victory in the second round of the F4 World Championship, which had no Italian participants. In the opening round of the Italian Formula Junior Elite Championship, Alberto Canzian (from Rimini, representing M.S. Projet Aquabike) and Gaia Genova (from Naples, of Rainbow Team Association) finished with equal points after two heats. However, Canzian took the win due to a faster lap time. Linda Apollinari completed the podium in third place. The second and final round of the Italian Championship is scheduled for September 12-13, 2026, in Otranto, Lecce.
Holding Our Breath for More
Following the Waterfestival, Inshore powerboating events will continue in Rogozno, Poland, from August 22nd to 23rd. Eight Italian pilots, accompanied by Giuseppe Rossi, will compete in the European Championships for the F250 and F125 categories. Both are single-stage events, making them crucial for clinching the 2026 continental titles.
The F250 European Championship will feature Massimiliano Cremona (the 2025 European Champion and current World Champion) and Pasquale Contento. Among the top contenders in F250 is the multi-champion Alessandro Cremona from Piacenza, Massimiliano's older brother, who will race on Polish waters with an American license.
In the F125 European Championship, the Italian colors will be represented by Luca Finotti, Gabriele Rossi, Daniele Ghiraldi, Nicolò Darai, Simona Fittavolini, and Davide Scarpa.
Grand Finale
August will conclude with another highly anticipated event of the racing season: the Grand Prix of San Nazzaro d’Ongina, in the province of Piacenza, held from August 28th to 30th. This event, organized by AMD San Nazzaro with the support of the Emilia-Romagna Region – Sport Valley, will see F2 World Championship pilots and those from the Osy/400 European Championship (which will include Italian competitor Francesco Simone Troglio) race on the waters of the Po River.
