Guridi: "The team didn't give up and reacted with personality"
Jon Guridi ignited Sevilla's comeback with a penalty goal against Rayo Vallecano. The player from Gipuzkoa expressed his happiness on his debut at the Sánchez-Pizjuán stadium. "We knew it was going to be very important. The club hadn't won their opening match in five years, and we were convinced we would achieve it. It's true that we started poorly, conceding a very early goal, but the team reacted well, with personality. They didn't give up," he commented to the media after the match.
"In the first half, we had our chances, we caused them a lot of damage with crosses from the flanks, and from the start of the second half, we went for them. You could see that we could come back. It was evident even with one player less that we weren't settling for a draw," he added.
"I'm a down-to-earth person; I don't like getting carried away when things go well. It's a happy day for me because of the goal and the win, but we have to keep working because this has only just begun. There's a lot of quality in La Liga, and you can see it from the first match," stated Guridi.
The midfielder had a dream debut. "It was incredible. I've played here as an opponent before, and having this crowd behind you is amazing. It was noticeable that they are really with us because conceding in the third minute was a cold shower. I told them to keep cheering," he pointed out. "My name was first on the list to take penalties. I went for it with personality, with confidence. In the end, those who take them can miss, and this time I scored. We need to continue with this momentum and this confidence."
