Established in 1935, the EuroBasket tournament, officially known as the European Basketball Championship, stands as a pivotal event in international basketball. The inaugural competition took place in Geneva, Switzerland. Since 2017, the men`s EuroBasket championship is held every four years, while the women`s tournament takes place biennially, with both events overseen by FIBA Europe.

Historically, Russia boasts the highest number of men`s EuroBasket titles, with 13 of its 14 championships secured during its time as the Soviet Union. In the women`s category, both Russia and Spain have claimed the most championships, each with three victories. The most recent men`s title was won by Spain, who triumphed over France in the 2022 final. Belgium secured the latest women`s championship, defeating Spain in the 2023 final.
