Roger McQueen, a promising prospect for the Anaheim Ducks, is making the significant transition from the Western Hockey League (WHL) to the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA). Providence College officially announced on Wednesday that McQueen would be joining their men`s hockey team for the upcoming 2024-25 season, marking a key addition to their roster.

McQueen, who was notably selected 10th overall by the Anaheim Ducks in June`s draft, represents a groundbreaking commitment for Providence. He becomes the very first top-10 draft pick and the sixth first-round selection overall to pledge to their highly regarded collegiate hockey program, underscoring the team`s growing prestige.

During the last hockey season, the 18-year-old forward showcased impressive offensive capabilities. While playing for the Brandon Wheat Kings in the WHL, he registered a total of 10 goals and 10 assists in just 17 games. Over his entire career in the WHL, spanning 127 games, McQueen accumulated an impressive record of 35 goals and 86 points, highlighting his consistent production.

His move to the NCAA is part of a noticeable and growing trend among players from the Canadian Hockey League (CHL) who are now opting to join U.S. college hockey ranks. This pathway became permissible for the 2025-26 season following a key rule amendment introduced late last year, opening new opportunities for talented young athletes like McQueen.
