Preview ‘Count me in’: Conor McGregor, pros react to Donald Trump’s UFC White House announcement

Conor McGregor and former President Donald Trump might collaborate on an event in 2026.

Speaking at a rally in Iowa on Thursday, Trump revealed his intention to host a UFC event as part of the 2026 July 4th Independence Day festivities, coinciding with the 250th anniversary of the U.S. Declaration of Independence.

While specific details remain scarce, the announcement sparked online discussion about the potential event. Several fighters expressed interest in participating, notably UFC prominent figure Conor McGregor.

Expressing enthusiasm on Twitter, McGregor stated:

I would be honored. Count me in.

McGregor also hinted at his anticipated bout against Michael Chandler.

Chandler, predictably, was receptive to the concept. The two previously coached against each other on The Ultimate Fighter 31 and were slated for a fight at UFC 303 in June 2024 before McGregor pulled out due to a broken toe.

In an Instagram Story, Chandler posed the question:

Anybody fancy a good old-fashioned, passionate red, white and blue ass whoopin on the lawn of The White House?

This isn`t McGregor`s first time at The White House; he visited 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue in March, discussing his political ambitions in Ireland with the media. Before that visit, Trump had spoken positively about McGregor during a conversation with Irish leader Micheál Martin.

However, as is often the case with McGregor, the seriousness of his interest in a potential White House event is debatable. He will be 38 next July and hasn`t fought since suffering a leg break at UFC 264 in July 2021 in his third fight against Dustin Poirier. Furthermore, McGregor faces two civil lawsuits alleging sexual assault; he was found liable in one case, and evidence from his team`s attempted appeal is currently under investigation.

Despite controversies impacting his public image, McGregor`s participation would undoubtedly generate significant interest for any potential White House event. Other fighters have also shown enthusiasm.
