Preview Cesc Fabregas Hails Como’s “Most Satisfying” Win, Backs Butez for France Call-Up

Cesc Fabregas described Como’s 2-1 away victory over Cagliari as “the most satisfying win this season,” attributing its significance to the team’s fatigue following their Coppa Italia fixtures. He also asserted that goalkeeper Jean Butez is “ready for international duty.”

Only two seasons removed from Serie B, Como, also known as the Lariani, are now competing in Serie A, battling for a top-four position and participating in the Coppa Italia semi-finals, enduring a demanding schedule of matches every three days.

Following a Tuesday evening 0-0 draw against Inter, Como secured a crucial 2-1 victory in Sardinia, with goals from Martin Baturina and Lucas Da Cunha, maintaining their strong form.

Fabregas Praises Como’s Developing Mentality

Speaking to DAZN Italia, Fabregas expressed his satisfaction: “I appreciated the team’s reaction today; this performance demonstrates their true character and the strong mentality that is developing with each game.”

He added, “We were utterly exhausted today, having played so many consecutive matches. That’s why this particular win is the most gratifying for me this season. It truly represents a significant stride forward for the squad.”

The victory was hard-earned; Sebastiano Esposito’s diving header had temporarily equalized for Cagliari, and Como relied on a crucial fingertip save from Butez to deny Michel Adopo.

Fabregas emphasized Como’s investment in youth, stating, “Como has invested in young players, and despite their modest cost, some of them are truly world-class.”

Regarding Butez, he praised, “Since joining, Butez has shown incredible dedication. He constantly seeks to improve and understands that success hinges on desire. He’s a leader, not only through his skill but also within the dressing room. I believe he is prepared for international call-up with France.”

This outcome temporarily places Como in a shared fourth position with Roma, who face a challenging away match against Genoa tomorrow evening, compounded by their Europa League commitments.

Does this mean the perceived “minnows” are legitimate contenders for a Champions League qualification spot?

Fabregas concluded, “We haven’t reached that point yet. We are moving in the right direction, but many matches remain. I witnessed clear progress from the team today; it was one of our toughest games this season, and credit also goes to Fabio Pisacane for instilling his identity into the Cagliari squad.”
