Imagine a world where Stephen Curry, widely recognized as the greatest 3-point shooter of all time, never graced the NBA courts. Instead of a professional basketball career, he might have been on the sidelines, fulfilling a different passion: coaching high school basketball. This intriguing possibility was recently brought to light by his wife, Ayesha Curry.
During an appearance on the `Call Her Daddy` podcast, Ayesha admitted that she initially had no idea Stephen would achieve NBA superstardom. “I didn`t know that he was going to end up playing basketball. He said he wanted to be a high school basketball coach,” she shared, highlighting his early career aspirations.
Ayesha, 36, also opened up about the initial impact of their growing fame on their relationship. She confessed to having “hated” being in the public eye during the early stages of her journey with Stephen.
The couple`s story began in 2003 when they first met. They started dating in 2009 and eventually married in July 2011, four years before the Golden State Warriors clinched their first NBA title in 2015. Together, they have four children.
Further elaborating on their past, Ayesha revealed to podcast host Alex Cooper that she had advised Stephen to complete his education rather than entering the 2009 NBA draft. Despite her initial advice, Stephen decided to declare for the draft and was selected as the seventh pick by the Warriors. Ayesha expressed her ultimate gladness regarding his decision to pursue professional basketball.
“He ended up finishing anyway and has gone on to do tremendous, incredible, cool s— that we never thought would happen, so it`s great,” Ayesha remarked, reflecting on his extraordinary success since then.
In the 2024-25 regular season, Stephen Curry continued to demonstrate his elite skills, averaging 24.5 points, 4.4 rebounds, and 6 assists for the Warriors. His impressive performance earned him a spot on the All-NBA second team.
