Tragedy has once again cast a shadow over the world of football. A fan has died and at least 60 others sustained injuries during a send-off event for Alianza Lima supporters, held in anticipation of the upcoming Clásico match against Universitario. The somber events unfolded at Alejandro Villanueva Stadium, located in the La Victoria district of Peru.
According to official reports, a massive crowd surge within the south stand led to a dangerous stampede inside the venue. While the exact cause of the fan’s death is still under active investigation, those injured were promptly transported to various nearby hospitals, where they are being treated for multiple contusions.
In response to the incident, Alianza Lima released a statement expressing profound regret over what occurred. The club confirmed that its security and emergency response protocols were immediately activated. Furthermore, the statement clarified that the tragic events were not linked to “collapsing walls or any structural failures at the sports venue,” suggesting the issue was primarily crowd-related.
